‘Humanitarian issue speculates:’ political scientist on  CE’s call to return Azerbaijani subversive’s corpse of the Azerbaijani subversive

“This is the continuation of the Minsk Group co-chairs’ statement,” said political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan in an interview with Aravot.am, interpreting CoE Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland’s statement pertaining to the subversive act in Chinari.  “In essence, Secretary General of the Council of Europe relies on the information which was disseminated by the Minsk Group co-chairs.  In Jagland’s statement despite the fact that Azerbaijan has made a subversive attempt and as a result, we had three losses, the main corner of the criticism is aimed at the Armenian side. And the humanitarian issue is speculated which is unacceptable,” said Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan with confidence.

The political scientist opines that the CoE Secretary General’s statement is an additional proof of the fact that the Armenian diplomacy should be more demanding over the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and force the latter to give up making equal by principle or neutral statements, “It damages our international reputation and the overall atmosphere of security in the region.”  Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan noticed a certain contrast in the fact that one the one hand, a sign of equality is put between the sides in the statement of the Minsk Group and CoE Secretary and on the other hand, it is obvious that the initiating side’s – Azerbaijan’s soldier’s corpse is left in the Armenians side.

“But let’s not forget that besides the truth about the incident, Azerbaijan has spread a false hypothesis claiming that the Armenian side has tried to make a subversive act.  Hence, we must demand what is logical, and be more specific in the statements,” said the political scientist.
