Acclaimed director and writer Atom Egoyan addressed the Armenian diaspora during a discussion organized by the University of Southern California Institute of Armenian Studies in Los Angeles entitled “Celebrity Diplomacy: Redefining Armenia’s Role in the Diaspora” on January 29, reports Civilnet.
“We know and should be appalled at what is happening with the elections, we should be appalled at the fact that there are people who have a political voice and are put in jail,” said Egoyan. The director also addressed fellow artists, “As artists, we have generated a lot of that feeling of nostalgia, patriotism, of identity. But now as artists, let’s make our day to day existence real.. let us heed the call that is made to us to engage.”
