“We are neither in a war nor in peace situation. Escalation is possible anytime as we can see that we do not have a reliable partner in front of us in any way,” said RA NA MP, Chairman of “European Integration” NGO, Karen Bekaryan, during the meeting with the journalists at the “Novosti-Armenia” Press Club, in response to the question of whether the recent escalations on the Karabakh-Azerbaijani and Armenia-Azerbaijani borders can lead to another escalation. This danger, according to him, exists as long as the political settlement of this issue has not reached a final agreement. And this cannot be expected as long as the “ruling clan of Azerbaijan has not made a step back from its maximalist line and has not entered the construction platform.”
“If Azerbaijan has a desire to change the status quo, the possible option for it is the element for the recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh independence and self-determination,” he said adding that the Azerbaijani illusions are empty that it is possible to pick up some dividends both from the Armenian side and the international community through escalations, disturbance of human lives and humanitarian disasters. “It was very clear that it will not work and Armenia will not agree to it,” said Karen Bekaryan.
In this context, assessing the RA President’s visit to Brussels and the clarity that “when the moment comes and the escalations lead to a war, Armenia as a guarantor of Nagorno-Karabakh’s security will not recoil from using its entire arsenal,” Karen Bekaryan considers this a very important and essential clarity. “This is the complete set of clarities which we witnessed during the RA President’s visit to Brussels,” said the speaker adding that the President’s message was important not only for Armenia’s European partners but also for Azerbaijan and the co-chairs.
