EU supports freedom of media and democracy in Georgia

March 07,2017 00:30

“The Delegation of the European Union has been monitoring the Rustavi 2 court case from the very start and we’ll closely examine the verdict adopted by the Supreme Court as well as its consequences. At the same time, we keep to our long-standing practice of not commenting on individual court decisions,” the statement said.

The statement highlighted the European Union’s joint efforts with Georgian authorities to support “independence, transparency and quality of judicial procedures, indispensable for upholding the rule of law”.

The EU continues to protect “political pluralism, freedom of media and access to diverse views” as well as democracy in line with “essential commitments contained in the Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union”.
