I think it is obvious to a lot of people, and the past parliamentary elections proved that our political leaders care very little even about those problems, concerning which they are doing “pre-electoral judgments”. Even if a man not deepened in economic issues “thinks hard” for 2-3 minutes, understands, that expressions like “I will find a familiar sheik, he will invest” or “let us make Nairit work” are just air vibrations. Or in this mayoral campaign, someone offers to solve the problem of transport of Yerevan in the following way: to increase the number of subway cars. What about more complex like security, governance, geopolitical issues then?
I do not blame our leaders: they are definitely not stupid more than Trump. Just in the developed countries there is developed intellectual elite, which, eventually, leads politicians. The elite will not just “spring”, it should be brought up, well, self-brought up as well. When Armen Ashotyan invited the first president to read lectures at the school of the Republican Party, it was perceived as a joke. But it is an accepted practice in the world: experienced retired officials, including first faces, sponsor serious analytical centers, read lectures at universities. In our country, everything is at ease of provincial level yet.
Hence we have the very low level of intellectual discourses. Let me give an example. I am trying to formulate (right or wrong) my thoughts about some social issue. But there is not any discussion on that point. The most frequent comment is approximately the following: “This country, this nation needs a government caring and loving this country and this nation, all the rest is a lie”. To this simple, hollow and, I would say again, “heartbreaking” conclusion come not only taxi drivers or herb sellers, but also people, who pretend to act as “profound commentators”.
Until the intellectual level of analysts and statesmen is this, until they are all waiting together for a “nationalist, patriotic and caring government”, it is difficult to expect another result than the one that we have. The question itself what power “this country” needs, is wrong and nonsensical: power is a technical category, function, not good or bad “dads” group. Contradicting to “profound commentators”, I will repeat, our country (not “this country”) needs intellectual elite.
