According to Ara Gochunian, the editor-in-chief of Istanbul’s “Zhamanak” newspaper, authorities of the Republic of Armenia should not ignore BSEC’s upcoming summit
“At the end of May should be marked the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). Generally, BSEC is a platform where Turkey and Armenia contact. A jubilee summit will take place in Istanbul hosted by the president. Erdogan is sending invitations to the presidents of BSEC’s member countries. I don’t know whether in this atmosphere president Sargsyan will accept that invitation,” in the interview with “Aravot” said Ara Gochunian, the editor-in-chief of Istanbul’s “Zhamanak” newspaper.”

We asked him whether Erdogan invited the President of the Republic of Armenia. “ I don’t know whether the invitation was sent or it is in progress. Generally, the heads of the governments or the states are accepting these invitations. Armenia and Turkey usually do not miss platforms of BSEC’s summits. There has been an opportunity to create Armenia-Turkey platform until now, and if there is a contact during upcoming summits or the change of atmosphere, sure it is not that possible, but we want to be an optimist, right now there is a milestone. Both Turkey and Armenia has new authorities, both countries are in a transitional period: they are changing governing systems. I don’t know what decision will make Armenian authorities, at what level they will participate. For instance, once Armenia participated at the level of deputy minister, which was a formal participation,” said our interviewee adding that Armenian authorities should not ignore BSEC’s summit
