‘He did not fulfill his obligations:’ why ‘Yelq’ boycotted President’s speech in Parliament

May 19,2017 21:09

During the press conference the newly elected councilman of “Yelq”, the bloc spokesman Tigran Avinyan explained why the members of bloc boycotted Serzh Sargsyan’s speech in the Parliament. Note that, the bloc members entered the session hall, only after the president left.

“Our bloc has fought against vote-buying throughout the Parliament election campaign. We have ever gone to the RPA campaign offices and obtained proofs that Republican Party is buying votes. The President was obliged to ensure the transparency of the electoral process by the Constitution, which he did not. Our step was aimed at the head of state, for not fulfilling his obligations.” said Tigran Avinyan.

He added that no one has forgotten 1 May and how Serzh Sargsyan came to power. “These facts also have had their impact on yesterday’s action.” And to the question, whether they were going to boycott the first session of Yerevan Council, he answered that the time would tell.
