“All NATO allies are concerned about the increasing level of armaments, because it is accompanied by increasing level of hostilities and political tension”, said the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai during a press conference at the NATO Information Centre in Armenia, referring to the fact that Russia sells arms to Azerbaijan.
He said that the two NATO allies are co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and that it is clear from the statements of the Minsk Group, that the co-chairs are committed to the process of finding a peaceful resolution to the situation. “NATO’s position is to seek a reduction in tension, a reduction in hostilities, and a peaceful resolution. We do follow very carefully the security situation in the region. There is a higher level of concern now. As you know better than me over the past years we have seen more military activity, a higher level of rhetoric, casualties, and military exchanges. Our position is to support the OSCE efforts”, he assured.
