The first electronic database of exiled citizens from Soviet Armenia in 1949 was presented in the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography NAS RA. It includes information about 13.000 people exiled in 1949.The creation of the database was made possible within the framework of Armenia Total program, and data can be searched on the site of the same name.
Lyova Ataryan was eight months old when his parent and he were exiled to Alta. Lyova granny told that the reason for exile was the fact that his father from Syria was Dashnak.
“My mother was a communist, she willingly went with my father. We stayed there until the death of Stalin, after which we returned to Artik. My grandfather passed away in Alta”, he remembered.
In addition, a group of students specially trained for this purpose, who have examined the documents of the exiled citizens provided by the RA National Archives, have a significant contribution to the creation of a database. Overall, the number of exiled from the USSR is almost 50 thousand.
