‘Who will stand surety for territories in exchange for status? Russia?’, Anush Sedrakyan

June 16,2017 16:45

Referring to Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s peace thesis, political analyst Anush Sedrakyan noted, that although it sounds attractive at first glance, we had a lot of provocations in that strategical area, “Either the president does not understand the status, which, in fact, is a bit doubtful, considering his mental abilities, or he deliberately distorts the situation, which in this case is a criminal act. The peace thesis is a claim for an alternative foreign policy. Karabakh conflict should not be identified with any of the existing conflicts in the world. Much is spoken about the territories in exchange for status. Previously, I used to support that approach, but after the April war, I realized that surrendering 800 hectares of land to the enemy means two-three centimeters farther flying bullets. Accordingly, I do not support any compromises anymore. Who will stand surety for territories in exchange for status? Russia? For what country has it stood without causing a war? There is no such country. All conflict settlement documents must be put aside, as long as they are not disclosed point by point. And where is our diplomacy looking at?”.

The political analyst expressed concern that our diplomacy still follows the “Russia will not allow” slogan, “Even in expert forums, when we say that there is a package of energy independence from the USA, they say Russia will not allow. We say there is a better offer of weapons, they say Russia will not allow”.
