London terror attack: a heinous hate crime, says Chairperson of Political Committee

June 19,2017 21:26

“Last night in London, Europe witnessed yet another attack against innocent people – a group of Muslim worshippers who were hurt by a van as they left a London mosque,” Mogens Jensen, Chairperson of the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) said in a statement unequivocally condemning « the heinous hate crime.”

“Our thoughts are with those who have been injured and their families,” he said.

“The Parliamentary Assembly has consistently drawn attention to the importance of upholding freedom of conscience and of religion as stated in Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. As we face growing fanaticism, intolerance and rejection of the other person for being different, we have to more than ever encourage the upholding of a fair and equitable status for all citizens irrespective of their religious or ethnic origin, and to refrain from inciting hatred of any kind.”
