Politician, ‘Azerbaijan wants war but does not have resources’

June 20,2017 17:40

“The logic of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, the logic of negotiating discussions on Artsakh conflict has changed”, politician Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan expressed his opinion. This is the result of the fact that over the past three years, Azerbaijan has changed the military-political situation in the region. Its proof is everyday border incidents with different manifestations.

“In this regard, it is very important to understand how we can achieve regional stability and security. And for that, I think it’s high time to take active steps to prevent Azerbaijan’s aggressive policy”, said the politician.

According to him, Azerbaijan would like to resume a large-scale war, but the country does not have the necessary resources and confidence to ensure the positive outcome of the war. “They actually need war. Still last year during the April war they could not start a large-scale war even when they had the advantage of unpredictability or unexpectedness and well-preparedness. Azerbaijan understands that under such conditions, it cannot start a war. Besides, they also have problems in their army”, said the speaker, adding that without a war, Azerbaijan cannot change the situation around Artsakh, no matter how much it wishes.

“They want a war, but do not have resources. So, I do not see a danger of a large-scale war resumption. Of course, I cannot exclude the possibilities of local collisions, such we witnessed on April last year”, said Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan.
