July 14,2017 13:08

Flood risk management is the focus of a two-day regional workshop taking place in the Georgian capital Tbilisi on 12-13 July. Organised by the EU-funded flagship initiative “Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Natural and Man-made Disasters in the Eastern Partnership Countries” (PPRD East 2), the event aims at improving the technical capacity of the six Eastern Partner countries to produce and elaborate flood risk information and maps in line with the provisions of the EU Floods Directive.

The participants discussed the PPRD East 2 Flood Risk Management Guidelines and good practices from EU member states and partner countries. The interaction between floods and technological facilities is also a focus of the workshop.

The PPRD East programme is the EU-funded flagship initiative for increasing the disaster risk management capacities of Eastern Partner countries. The initiative helps to protect the populations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine from the negative consequences of natural and man-made disasters. The 2nd phase of the programme (PPRD East 2) will run until November 2018.
