Real members of Paris High Fashion Academy Gevorg and Vardan Tarloyans are in Yerevan

We do not have certain statistics on the number of the Armenian artists residing and creating abroad yet. The visit of each of them to their fatherland is expected by the audience, however, there are celebrities, the communication with the art of whom becomes a real celebration.

Gevorg and Vardan Tarloyans, the real members of Paris High Fashion Academy since 2000, are in Yerevan. Let us note that the mentioned academy has 16 members, including famous couturiers Dior, Versace, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy and others. Our fellow Armenians occupied Paris have displayed their art in Armenia for solely one time – in 2006, on “Inquisition” and “Escape” topics.

“Aravot” meets with the Armenian couturiers for the 3rd time (21.05.2013, 6.09.2016).

During the interview the Tarloyans informed that this time they are invited by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia (director – Ruzana Sirunyan, art director and chief conductor – Eduard Topchyan), on the occasion of staging Puccini’s opera – “La boheme” (producer – Sukias Torosyan), which will take place in “Aram Khachaturian” concert hall, in July 26. We will still refer to “La boheme”.

Firstly, we reminded the couturiers of the intention of implementing one or two projects in Armenia, stated by them during past interviews and asked what is done in that direction.

“In our field, serious financial means are required and most importantly, textile industry should be promoted in Armenia. Armenian oligarchs may not imagine that investments can be made in the field of fashion or they doubt on how the invested finances will come back. I will merely note that the return is unavoidable and I repeat that it will be solely via the development of textile industry, which comprises production of textures, footwear, jewelry, perfume, etc.”, informed Vardan Tarloyan. The brother, emphasizing as if they have not founded a salon in Yerevan yet, informed that their summer and fall collections are already displayed in “Elite Life” salon, beside the works of their Armenian colleagues. He also added that the offer they have received from the director of the salon, Maya Poghosyan, and it is good that this salon is intended for revealing Armenian designers.

Referring to the opera “La boheme”, we stated that they enter theater as well. Tarloyan brothers noted that they have such experience, and gave details: “Still in mid-2000s, collaborating with French M6 TV, we have implemented the clothing design of a set of musicals, “Gone from the Wind” encompassed. By the way, a wonderful music had written composer Gerard Presgurvic for the homonymous work of Margaret Mitchell.” Passing to “La boheme”, our interviewees assured that their theatrical costumes resemble Puccini’s (19th century) period by forms, colors, even by mood. They opened some brackets. It appears, before the start of the evening, their works relative to that period of time will be presented to the audience to prepare them, in the foyer. According to Gevorg Tarloyan, it is a 15-minute performance which they have entitled “A Walk in Paris”.

During the interview, the couturiers informed that they have been focused on the option of representing the fashion via sketches and displaying the clothes via sculptural figures recently. And on what to represent sculptural character clothing signifies, Gevorg Tarloyan gave details: “The dress on the sculpture, unlike the mannequin, is viewed as simply a fashion sample. Such thing has not been implemented in Armenia yet, and we presented our paintings and a few clothes entitled “Meeting” via sculptural figures in Jansem Gallery, Paris, in 2015 for the first time.” Our interviewees intend to organize such exhibition in Yerevan as well. On this and other issues they are going to meet with the Minister of Culture, Armen Amiryan in days: they wish to found a school in Armenia or regularly hold master class trainings.

Fashion is always “in a movement”, consequently, this time as well we asked Tarloyans to give their opinion on our government officials’, particularly the President of the Republic of Armenia and his wife’s clothing. As viewed by the couturiers, male officials wear too classical and women follow mainly French and Italian fashion. As regards Mr. and Mrs. Sargsyans: “They dress presentably, the character of the president is classical, and his wife’s dressing is a high art indeed. We do not know who does that, but it should be noted that it is correctly chosen how to introduce in various events.” As stated by the couturiers, they are impressed especially by the permanent attention of the president and his wife towards culture.
