The head of the “Domestic Producers’ Union” Vazgen Safaryan announced, that it is not excluded that we can organize a production of any Russian or European car assembly today.
According to him, “in the 1990s, there were rumors that trolleybuses might start being assembled at the “Yeraz” factory. Unfortunately, “Yeraz” factory has lost its production potential today, the equipment was mainly taken out and sold as other types of goods, as scrap metal, etc, or many machinery tools have been alienated. But I do not exclude the fact, that we can organize a production of any Russian or European car assembly today”.
Vazgen Safaryan said that years ago an agreement was reached with Russia to produce “Volga” in Armenia. He says, “In 2000, I talked to the Gorky automobile factory administration, and we agreed on assembling GAZ mark cars, Volgas, here. We should have been able to assemble 250 vehicles per day, but there was a problem of selling them, of assembling and selling so many cars per day. And it was only the matter of selling that the initiative was left unfinished. Today, times have changed and Russia has a joint venture with “Toyota” in St. Petersburg, and they assemble cars with German “Volkswagen” in Kaliningrad, they assemble in Izhevsk, so I think it’s also not excluded that we will deal with vehicle production as well, that’s a matter of time. This can be discussed”.
September 28 is Machine Builders’ Day. Domestic Producers’ Union has organized a large conference for that day, where several dozens of guests from the EAEU member states will participate. Among other matters, the issue of car production in Armenia will also be discussed at the conference.
