First Ombudsman of the Republic of Armenia, human rights defender Larisa Alaverdyan argues that since the very day of its establishment, the Republic of Azerbaijan has committed genocidal acts against Armenians. According to her, the massacres of Baku and Sumgait are only a few episodes of that Armenophobia, and today Azerbaijan’s actions in the whole world are again aimed at Armenophobia.
“The creation of a second Turkish state, Azerbaijan, by Turkey took place in order to carry out genocide, removal of Armenians, and Armenophobia. Armenians have suffered greatly from this xenophobia, and indigenous ethnic groups in Azerbaijan continue to suffer today”, during the discussion titled “Face of Nationalism and Xenophobia, 30 years ago and now” held at the Armenian Institute for International and Security Affairs, said Larisa Alaverdyan.
“There are Armenian schools and churches in Turkey, but not in Azerbaijan… This is a political activity”, she said. According to her, Sumgait massacres should be constantly voiced and the issue presented on the legal level. Let us remind that Sumgait massacres took place within these days in 1988.
