Three Armenians have gained seats in the Lebanese parliament as a result of Sunday’s elections held in the country, expert on Arabic studies Armen Petrosyan said in a post on Facebook, Panorama.am reports.
All the three elected candidates – Hagop Pakradouni, Hagop Terzian and Alexandre Matossian –were nominated by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D), he said.
According to the initial results, the voter turnout in the country’s parliamentary elections held for the first time since 2009, was 49,2% compared to 54% recorded in the 2009 voting.
The expert added that a total of 975 candidates, including 111 women, had submitted bids for the 128 seats in parliament.
As votes are being counted, the political forces led by Hezbollah bloc are expected to obtain at least 67 out of the overall 128 seats in the parliament.
The last elections in the country were held in 2009, for what was supposed to be a four-year term, but parliament extended its term twice in 2013 and 2017 due to the Syria crisis.
