What are grounds for snap elections? Pashinyan says public is to make decisions

May 11,2018 16:43

Today’s government session was open-doors. After the session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told journalists at a briefing that he was making new appointments in government, that they would make a harmonious government, and that Davit Tonoyan would be appointed Defense Minister, while Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan would not continue her tenure.

“We need to find the best human resources, “Tsarukyan” alliance will be involved in government”, said Pashinyan.

Responding to the statement made by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the first president of the Republic of Armenia, that the Prime Minister will not be able to amend the laws as a result of public pressure, Pashinyan said: “As long as there is public support, it will be fully utilized for the country’s development. Once there is no public support, I will stop being Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia”.

Regarding snap elections, Pashinyan said that it should be done in a short but logical time frame. In response to the question of Aravot.am, whether Pashinyan plans to undo the Parliament’s adoption of government’s program, the latter said: “No I do not have such intentions”.

To respond to our clarifying question whether in that case, what kind of legal grounds there are for snap elections, the Republican Party does not want elections, Pashinyan said: “Public is to make decisions”.
