Early in the morning, newly appointed Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan came to Shirak State University, where he had a short meeting with the rector of the University Sahak Minasyan and then with the staff and answered journalists’ questions.
He said that during this time he had meetings with all interested parties: the non-academic atmosphere, where the internal issues of the Shirak University were discussed under mutual insult, is unacceptable for him.
The Minister asked the Acting Rector to consider the possibility of returning the two dismissed lecturers Hovhannes Khorikyan and Gagik Hambaryan in the upcoming weeks. He also noted that problems in all the universities should be solved by means of negotiations, compromises, we must take into account that the situation in Armenia has changed and we have new realities that should not leave anyone out of the legal field.
To the question, whether this was a forced resignation or voluntarily Mr. Minasyan replied: “I think after the Minister’s speech there was no need for such question anymore, it is clear that I took the step”.
