During “Azatutyun” radio’s Facebook press conference, answering to “Aravot’s” question if he can solve the issue of accessibility and quality of education by dismissing all rectors, the Minister of Education and Science, Arayik Haarutyunyan said: “I think they are directly correlated. It is a comprehensive issue. We have faced up with those issues years and years on, inasmuch as who were appointing those rectors? The committees formed by the authorities. Those rectors had to have certain duties towards the authorities. An issue of effective governance is in place, as some financial means were going to the foundations adherent to the authorities, for example to the “Youth Foundation”, and yes, this was made on that issue.”
The Minister of Education and Science, referring to education accessibility, also announced that free education is an issue of overall policy, which should be still discussed.
“I am very much hopeful that by providing a sufficient economic growth in the upcoming years, we will refer to and discuss the issue of making higher education free. I do not want to say that this is a priority issue, taking into consideration the present economic situation. When a wanted situation will be in place, higher education will then be free in Armenia.”
