People often think that what is important, crucial and urgent at this point will remain such forever. However, many things are temporary, including sharp controversies, friendships, hostility. This is also true in international relations. There was time when Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad were spending their summer vacation together with their families, Turkey is in war against Syria now. A few months ago, Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump threatened to destroy each other, but that passed too.
The inner life of the states is the same. The revolutions are followed by self-justification of the “defeated”, attempts of self-affirmation, as well as the eiforium and paranoid of the winners. Who has witnessed only one revolution in his life may be be surprised. Those who have some experience know that this too shall pass. The “former” say, “Look at them, what do you understand of the state? You will surely fail”, etc. The “current” ones say, “How do you dare to speak, you, criminals, robbers, anti-revolutionaries and revanchists?”. This “eternal” debate will last for several months…. Then it will pass.
By the way, about the revenge. I do not know whether there were orare people among the communists (after 1990), among the members of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (after 1998), and now among the Republican Party members dreaming about revenge. After all, such dreams can not be ruled out, but I can say with certainty that such a thing is impossible: the former authorities have no way to return to power. It is another matter that the “current” ones tend to interpret any oppositionist speech as “a step towards revenge of the previous criminal regime”, and taking into account the level of public hatred towards these “previous regimes”, such propaganda trick is effective for some time. Only for some time. Then the effect of threatening by the “shadow of the former” passes.
Of course, there are serious, non-transient issues that are important to the state and which are worth discussing, but not now, because now is not the time for rational discussions. Now it is a post-revolutionary period, which, of course, will pass.
