During his charity visit to Armenia, singer Elton John also made some statements and expressed readiness to assist the LGBT community, which caused some tension and became a subject of debate on social networks.
In this regard, in order to clarify the Church’s position Aravot.am turned to priest Vahram Melikyan, Director of the Information System of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
“On various occasions the Mother See has had an opportunity to express the clear position of the Armenian Church on homosexuality, condemning the propaganda of the phenomenon based on the Scriptures and the Christian doctrine. The position of the Armenian Apostolic Church in this issue remains unchanged.
The Armenian Church is always the protector and advocate of our traditional family values and the holiness of the family. Let us note that the Mother See contributed to the fixation of the latter in the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia”, said the priest.
