“Yerevan city has approximately 60% of the Republic’s economy and it is evident that a power shift has taken place bringing forth an issue of teams under the limelight of new realities. One team has left and another team has come to power. It is not only Taron Margaryan, who resigns, officials resign in a lot of places and Taron Margaryan also has resigned in that logic, I believe,” said member of “Yelq” bloc, Edmon Marukyan, referring to Taron Margaryan’s resignation as Yerevan City Mayor.
Asked what undermined his resignation, if it was connected with scandalous disclosures, Marukyan replied: “The resignation cannot serve as a ground or reason to hide a peculation. The law enforcement bodies will deal with peculations. Every peculation will be prosecuted accordingly and estimated legally. ”
To the question if “Yelq” had its candidate, Marukyan responded they had not discussed it yet. To another question if we could infer from his expression holding that one team has gone and another team has come to power bringing about a row of resignations, which was logical, that we should expect the Prosecutor General to resign as well, taking into consideration that he was from the previous team, Edmon Marukyan answered: “There were many officials who resigned, they were re-elected, they were appointed for a long-term – for years again, but they resigned. A political logic of teamwork exists. Perhaps there are people now, who have already fit in the new logic, they work. There are people still in inertia, they do not know something has changed. These are all processes, I cannot say when someone will resign or if s/he will resign at all, but Taron Margaryna’s resignation was demanded by “Yelq” bloc of Yerevan City Council. That is, it was not news. The bloc had demanded and the demand was satisfied. I have not seen a demand for the Prosecutor’s resignation and no such formulated political demand was in place by any political force.”
