French-Armenian director: ‘Today I feel more like an Armenian than a French’

July 11,2018 17:42

The 15th “Golden Apricot” Film Festival in cooperation with the French Republic Embassy in Armenia launched the “Francophone countries’ films” program on July 10 and  French actor, screenwriter and film director Valerie Massadian’s film, “Milla”, was screened in that frame.

Director of the festival Susanna Harutyunyan noted that the program includes fifteen films, productions of Canadian, Lebanese, Belgian and other Francophone countries.

French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacote noted that 2018 was a special year in Armenia. “Spring was already special, summer is also special with the 15th “Golden Apricot” Film Festival, fall will be even more special, thanks to the Francophone Summit to be held in Yerevan”, said the Ambassador.

“We are grateful to the “Golden Apricot” Film Festival that it has given a special importance to the Francophone films this year. The festival opened with Robert Gedikyan’s French film. The French Embassy supported the “Golden Apricot” Festival from the very  date of its creation”, said the Ambassador. According to Mr. Lacote, the films presented at the festival are in the context of Francophonie values.

Valerie Massadian said she was glad to be in Armenia within the framework of the festival, in which she was supported by the Embassy of France in Armenia. “Today I feel more like an Armenian than a French. I am forty-five years old, and live in Europe, where there was some tension. Everyone, even non-Armenians, was following the events that took place in Armenia these days. That gave all of us a great hope”, said Massadian.

She noted that he does not like to talk about a film before its screening: “One should have no expectations before watching a film, and be open to accept the film the way it is”.
