‘Nothing will happen, Armenian-Russian cooperation will continue’: Alexander Iskandaryan

July 23,2018 20:41

Alexander Iskandaryan believes that there is no need to worry about the recent incident that took place in the village of Panik because of the Russian military base. “Nothing will happen, the partnership with Russia will be at the same level, the contacts will continue. Armenian-Russian cooperation in the sphere of security has geopolitical reasons, so there will be no serious changes in regard to this incident”, said Iskandaryan at a press conference.

According to him, this incident is not of a huge significance: “Such cases have happened, and are not excluded in the future either”. Journalists asked whether why Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan qualified it as “provocation” if it is of a small significance. The political analyst noted: “There may be some scandals that are risky for the Armenian-Russian relations. I agree with the Prime Minister from this point of view. At the same time, Armenian-Russian relations are accustomed to such incidents, they have experienced more serious ones, for instance, Permyakov’s case, April hostilities”.

Alexander Iskandaryan asked: “Why should anyone be standing behind the word “provocation”?. Political scientist believes that, despite Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan’s statement, there will be no change in the status of the Russian military base in Armenia: “The cooperation between the sides will continue, negotiations on the supply of military equipment as well”.
