German analyst Susan Stewart stated that Azerbaijan could take advantage of Armenia’s situation after the revolution and in internal and foreign arenas. According to her, this is a transitional state for Armenia that has many challenges, since there are also issues in foreign politics. “Many problems face the new authorities in Armenia, such as the need to stabilize the inner political situation and the problems that arose politically after the revolution, which both demand quick political processes. However, of course, the situation at the Karabakh Line of Contact has not change, and there is a conflict. The situation is advancing around this. Maybe Azerbaijan will try to take advantage of the circumstances. Of course, alongside inner processes, the Armenian side needs to pay attention to foreign politics and not allow itself to make any mistakes, since the possibility of impending war and the likelihood of a military surprise against Armenia are high, since the instability of the political situation in Armenia continues,” Stewart said.
According to her, of course, the obvious support for Azerbaijan by its allies and the discussions regarding problems facing Armenian-Russian relations are important.
“Of course, we aren’t fully informed about whether there really are problems or not, since they’re considered to be positive during the current administration in Armenia, but there have been several advancements that have received tense evaluations from Moscow. Overall, it’s important to be careful in foreign policy and in internal processes in order to get through this without any problems,” the German political scientist said.
