Armenian national team captain and member of the London “Arsenal” team Henrikh Mkhitaryan returned his diplomatic passport to the Armenian embassy in Great Britain. News.am spoke to the footballer’s mother Marina Tashjyan about this.
According to her, the Armenian embassy in Great Britain sent her son a letter regarding returning his diplomatic passport, after which he asked the club to send his passport to the embassy.
“It’s clear that anyone who would’ve received such a letter would’ve gotten upset, but we got used to the fact that if he had to return his passport, then that’s what he has to do. That wasn’t very important for us, but the diplomatic passport allowed Henrikh to go to many different countries and for him to not wait in long lines at passport control in the airport,” his mother said.
According to the footballer’s mother, the diplomatic passport didn’t give Henrikh any other benefits and he doesn’t have the need for any privileges.
“The passport didn’t give him any other privileges, and he’s not the kind of person to have taken advantage of those privileges with a diplomatic passport. Let the people who demanded it back think about it,” she said.
