German political scientist Alexander Rahr said that the frequency of meetings isn’t a sign that Armenian-Russian problems are smoothing out. “The frequent meetings are connecting to the activities of organizations that Armenia and Russia are members of. Those meetings are mostly about the fact that there are serious political ties between the two countries, but at present, there are problems. Naturally, the upcoming agenda will be extremely full. The adaptation period continues, Russia continues to meet the new people in charge of the Armenian government, it follows the Armenian prime minister’s speeches in America, his meetings, and his meetings with Western powers, which will be important to understand the possibility of solving problems present in Armenian-Russian relations. I think that time is needed for everything to become clear and for mutual trust to form, since the reason for all present issues is the lack of trust between both countries,” Rahr said.
He doesn’t exclude the possibility that, before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Armenia, the environment for Armenian-Russian relations will get better from the perspective of solving problems.
