Edmon Marukyan, who is a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, summarized for Aravot.am what took place during the fall session of PACE and about issues that face Armenia.
He said that the particular resolution recently accepted by PACE may affect the increase of human rights protection in Artsakh. When Azerbaijan attacks peaceful villagers and other civilians, kills them, and decapitates soldiers, we will be able to have monitoring mechanisms put into place which will record these violations on an international level and will make Azerbaijan responsible for its actions.
Marukyan also said that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s announcement that the Armenian delegation to PACE does not represent anyone was made in a different context. It was about having a new delegation to PACE following the parliamentary elections, not about the work that is currently being done. In response to Marukyan’s call to support snap elections in Armenia, the Monitoring Committee will visit, will study the current situation in the country, will meet with all sides, and will announce their opinion. It has been understood that holding snap elections in Armenia is necessary in order to complete the revolution and establish stability in the country to make Armenia a stronger democracy.
When asked if he knew what Lena Nazaryan’s purpose in visiting Strasbourg was, Marukyan said that they had spoken to the prime minister prior to leaving about what was expected of them. Lena Nazaryan went to represent the “Civil Contract” political party and she had a different task. Marukyan is representing the “Yelq” faction. He said that there is not a question of trust here.
