Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Arpine Hovhannisyan wrote on her Facebook page,
“PACE accepted the “Nuclear Safety in Europe” resolution during its October session. The aim of the resolution was to define measures that need to be taken by member states in order to increase the security of Europe’s nuclear power plants and in order to decrease the risk of incidents or terrorist attacks. The Assembly demanded Belarusian authorities to not use the Ostrovetsi power plant that is currently being built only 45 kilometers away from Vilnius, Latvia. The Azerbaijani delegation took advantage of this and tried to demand that all activities of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant cease. They were unsuccessful, however; we stopped them.
The agenda was not only full for the plenary session, but also for political groups. I was therefore able to stop the appointment of a co-rapporteur in the European People’s Party who had an impartial attitude towards Armenia. As a result, Andrey Shirchel of Slovenia was appointed a new co-rapporteur of the EPP.
I will discuss the details of the visit by co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee and the meetings I was a part of later on.”
