Political analyst Ara Papian considers the announcement made by US National Security Advisor John Bolton to be worrisome about how if Nikol Pashinyan wins the upcoming snap parliamentary elections in December, he can initiate critical steps for resolving the Artsakh conflict. “There are worrisome implications within that announcement. He did not clarify what those critical steps are or what he was referring to. I don’t think that what he meant will be in our best interests,” Papian told reporters in an interview.
Ara Papian is also not satisfied with Bolton’s description of the situation in Armenia and how its a priority for the USA. “This fact is very upsetting.”
The political scientist does not consider discussions among American authorities regarding changing the law so that weapons can be sold to Azerbaijan and Armenia. “If the American market for selling weapons opens up, Azerbaijan will have much bigger opportunities. It will not only enter the American market, but it will also carry out anti-Armenian lobbying through its heavy influence on large American organizations.”
Regarding Bolton’s evaluations on the Armenian humanitarian mission in Syria, Ara Papian said that having humanitarian workers from the Ministry of Defense could be interpreted inaccurately by the USA. “We could have sent experts from the Ministry of Emergency Situations so that there would have been no issue. America will be following the Armenian mission in Syria closely. Our country is representing itself under its own flag, and Russia and Iran are doing the same. Russia and Iran are being heavily sanctioned by the USA.”
