On 30 October, the EU Delegation to Armenia organised a site visit to Vayots Dzor marz to meet Armenian farmers and take stock of the results of subgrant projects in the province.

EU Ambassador Piotr Świtalski took part in the visit, accompanied by Armenian media.

The EU has supported Armenian farmers for many years and has become the largest grant provider to the country.

The EU’s European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development and Organic Agriculture Support Initiative have provided budget support, technical assistance and grants to Armenian agricultural producers.

This support has helped the development of rural communities and the competitiveness and modernisation of the agri-food sector. In doing so, it has also helped to increase the living standards of Armenian citizens.

“A main market opportunity in the EU is the strong demand trend for healthy natural products without artificial ingredients and with low sugar content,” said Piotr Świtalski, Head of the EU Delegation to the country.

“Armenia has particular strengths for the production of niche products and it is an advantage that a lot of companies have an organic certification with support from the EU,” he added.
