Red Cross passed on positive message from son captured in Azerbaijan

November 07,2018 15:36

On November 6th, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s wife Anna Hakobyan visited the home of Karen Ghazaryan, who was captured by Azerbaijan, in the bordering village of Berdavan, Noyemberyan district, Tavush. She met with Karen’s parents, Armen and Asya. Karen’s father wished for no reporters to be present at this meeting. After the meeting, Anna Hakobyan told reporters that the meeting took place at the wishes of Karen’s parents.

She said that representatives of the Red Cross International Committee periodically visit Karen Ghazaryan, but this time the meetings were late. Karen Ghazaryan’s parents fear that he does not have the appropriate clothing for winter.

She said that the case was sent to the European Court of Human Rights. There are strong arguments to prove that Azerbaijan violated Karen Ghazaryan’s rights. Karen does not have any health problems nor does he need medical treatment.

Karen Ghazaryan’s father reported to us that they sent a letter to Karen via the Red Cross International Committee, but they did not receive a letter back from Karen. They instead received a verbal notification from their son through the Red Cross that he is doing fine. Karen’s father said that he is counting on the Armenian government to ensure his son’s return to Armenia.
