A candidate for deputy from the Citizen’s Decision Social Democratic Party, Karen Harutyunyan, warned that the pre-election campaigns are taking place on a black-and-white surface. “Almost no one is speaking about the fact that the revolution happened, so now how do we envision our lives? Where are we going? And what can we do for Armenia as a political party?” Karen Harutyunyan said during a press conference. He said that the “I’m good, and you’re bad” argument does not exist within Citizen’s Decision.
Speaking about their visions for the development of Armenia, Karen Harutyunyan said that the political party is a social democratic one, which means that the state needs to create conditions for citizens to provide themselves with continual development. Their future goals are to overcome poverty and to have a high-quality economy. They do not want people to be forced to work for a 50 thousand AMD salary, instead, people should study, become professionals, and have dignified careers and lives. The emphasis on developing education will be placed on increasing quality. Harutyunyan said that the budgetary money set aside for education needs to increase, as well as the salaries for teachers.
When asked why the party is not part of the Civil Contract party, since some of their social workers are on the My Step list, Karen Harutyunyan answered, “There are differences in our ideologies. We are social democrats. They do not have an ideology. They are trying things out, but I don’t understand it.” He also said that there is a hierarchy within Civil Contract that his party doesn’t see itself as being a part of. They want to have their own agenda. However, there have been collaborations with CC within the framework of the revolution, which will continue.
