The parliamentary elections of December 9th, 2018 were a reflection of the people’s will. European Commissioner Johannes Hahn spoke about this with reporters. “It is a positive fact that those elections were accepted by everyone. These were unique elections for Armenia, which the international community considered to be fair and transparent,” the high-ranking official expressed. He said that the future needs to be full of economic development so that Armenia can become a more powerful democratic state.
Johannes Hahn then announced that the European Union will be increasing financial support sent to Armenia. “300 million euro programs are in place, and more 100 million euro programs are being formulated. We are negotiating for how financial support will be given in the future, but it is already clear that there will be more financial support in the future than there is now. This will be a positive result for Armenia, which truly did a lot over these past few months.”
Reporters asked if the increase in financial support has any connections with the political developments and changes of 2018. Hahn said, “I am brave enough to say that yes, the additional financial support will be encouragement for the developments that took place in 2018. But the positive mood in the country is much more important, and it also has an impact on investments. People overseas are interesting in coming to Armenia. The environment is very good.”
