The ministers of foreign affairs of Armenia and Azerbaijan were pictured on May 13th during the meeting for foreign ministers of the Eastern Partnership countries laughing with one another.
Aravot Daily asked Zohrab Mnatsakanyan about why they were laughing. “We’re people too, we can talk to one another and laugh…” the minister responded half-jokingly.
Regarding our observation that it seemed as though Mamedyarov demanded that he turn around to take a picture, Mnatsakanyan said, “Yes, he said, ‘Let’s get a picture together so they don’t think that we can’t communicate with one another.’ I said ‘Of course, you’re right, we definitely can communicate, negotiate, and work together.’ It’s a normal thing that has no subcontext.”
