Nouneh Sarkissian: ‘Armenian women also want to own businesses, we need to create opportunities for them’

June 17,2019 23:42

The President of Armenia’s wife Nouneh Sarkissian met with 13 members of the Argentinian Pollera Pantalon initiative for women who own start-ups at the President’s Residence.

Nouneh Sarkissian told reporters that she spoke with the women for around two hours and they discussed women’s leadership worldwide. She said that such meetings are important for Armenia and for Armenian women. For example, there was a woman farmer who grew carrots, another who worked as a pharmacist, and another who worked in the wine industry. These sectors also have the opportunity to develop in Armenia. “I encouraged them to develop stronger ties with Armenia, visit often, invest, and create businesses,” Sarkissian said.

Nouneh Sarkissian noted that Armenian women also wish to own businesses, but they need to be encouraged and given the opportunity to do so.

The visit of Argentinian businesswomen was organized by the Argentinian-Armenian Eurnekian family.

Juliana del Aguila-Eurnekian was also present at the meeting. She is a psychologist by profession, but she has worked in the wine industry in both Armenia and Argentina. She told reporters, “We want to promote women’s empowerment in Armenia and in Argentina, as well as create better working conditions for them.”
