On June 18th, Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Zakir Hasanov made statements about famous Armenian footballer Henrikh Mkhitaryan and about Armenians in general during a press conference. This caused local reporters to make funny comments. My Step deputy Hovhannes Igityan spoke to Aravot Daily about this. According to him, what Hasanov said about Mkhitaryan can be translated as: “Who is Henrikh Mkhitaryan? He isn’t worth one penny. He is simply someone who sits on the bench. Whether he participated in the match or not, his team was going to lose anyways.”
Igityan noted, “One of the reporters reminded Hasanov how much money that ‘worthless’ footballer brought to Arsenal.”

According to Hovhannes Igityan, this problem is not with Henrikh Mkhitaryan personally, but it is due to the fact that Armenian and non-Armenian football fans were unable to go to Azerbaijan, and others had problems in Azerbaijan. This shows Azerbaijan’s racist tendencies. “Azerbaijan passed its limits, and it has not given any response for the situation until now. Meanwhile, it considers itself to be a country that operates on European standards,” the deputy said.
