“We need to make a decision about establishing a working group for repatriate affairs during today’s session,” head of the National Assembly Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sport, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, said during the recent committee session.
He noted that the goal was to decrease the number of groups so that they could mobilize their work. “In the beginning, there were plans to have a larger working group, but we decided upon having a smaller group to increase productivity. We hope to establish a concrete schedule with separate state bodies and departments.”
Regarding the goals of the group, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan said, “The main task of the group will be to meet with experts from Armenia and the Diaspora, as well as with repatriate families to understand what the new law needs to look like. We have discussed the issue of whether we truly need to have a new law on repatriation or not. We have come to the conclusion that we do. In this session, we confirmed that we will have a new law soon.”
