Lena Nazaryan vaguely answers questions about the Amulsar mine

September 11,2019 18:18

“I have asked the government the same questions that reporters and the public are asking, and I have received the same answers as you. Those answers have been published,” Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Lena Nazaryan told reporters regarding the Amulsar gold mine. She assured reporters that she spoke about controversial issues during a closed meeting with the Civil Contract party.

During a Facebook livestream, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had announced that the government does not currently have any legal basis to prevent Lydian from using the Amulsar mine. The company assured that they will be using the mine with the highest-quality materials and they will not allow pollution to take place. The Prime Minister said that the government will be allowed to examine the mine daily. If the government comes across any problems, then it will be allowed to deprive Lydian of its right to use the mine.

When asked about what her position is on this announcement, Lena Nazaryan said, “If I was asked this question in parliament, I would answer it. I have voiced my worries with my political team during discussions.”

Nazaryan did not answer any other questions and she left quickly. However, reporters also wanted to know about possible disagreements within the political party and what the risks of operating the Amulsar mine will include.

Residents of Jermuk did not listen to the Prime Minister’s request and they gave him until September 20th to make a clear decision.
