“The statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Turkey’s military invasion of Syria does not only against international rights norms, but also Armenian interests, and that it intends to remind the international community and Turkey about this is important,” Turkish affairs expert Vahram Ter-Matevosyan told reporters at the Institute of Oriental Studies’ conference titled, “Changes in the Near East: Old Players and New Challenges.”
“This violation of Syrian territorial integrity seems to have become a pattern in world politics. International and regional players are launching military invasions and claiming that those are ‘anti-terrorism operations.’ This is where they deviate from international rights and security,” Vahram Ter-Matevosyan said.
According to him, the Armenian leadership needs to frequently speak about troubling issues. “Silence will not bring anything. We have interests in Syria. What is taking place in that country has an effect on our society, so the Armenian authorities need to pay attention to what takes place in Syria.”
The latest notable event that took place within the framework of the Syrian crisis was a meeting between Erdogan and Putin. The presidents of Russia and Turkey signed a mutual agreement.
