Head of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party and Editor-in-Chief of the ‘Azg’ newspaper Hakob Avetikyan believes that the past year and a half after the revolution has been ‘wishy-washy’ in Armenia.
Hakob Avetikyan spoke to journalists at the ‘Hayeli’ club. “They constantly arrest people, persecute them, file criminal cases, and cause an uproar. People wake up every day wondering who will be arrested today? Who will be charged today? What remains is pressing charges against the Catholicos and either arresting or freeing him.”
Avetikyan compared the fact that the current authorities constantly speak about the revolution and how unique it was to the years Levon Ter-Petrossian was in power. Ter-Petrossian would constantly try to convince Americans that the Berlin Wall fell because of the liberation movement in Armenia. “There is no direct correlation. To constantly speak about it and make it vulnerable… in any case, this entire process that we are witnessing in the post-revolutionary period shows something else. The past year and a half has been wishy-washy.”
According to Hakob Avetikyan, the authorities are trying to conceal their shortcomings through making arrest. He summarized, “We don’t have many changes to make that would cause our country to be more attractive, develop our economy, and that would strengthen Armenia and Artsakh.”
