On January 23 summary of 2019 activities of Yerevan Rescue Department of the Rescue Service of MES was held. ES Minister Feliks Tsolakyan, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, r/s General-Major, Director of the Rescue Service and other officials took part in the summary.
Arnold Harutyunyan, Head of Yerevan Rescue Department of the Rescue Service of MES made a report on the activities implemented in 2019.
10824 emergency cases (in 2018-8705) were registered in Yerevan in the reporting period, as a result there were 149 victims (in 2018-44 victims) and 5200 casualties (in 2018-4904 casualties).
Compared with 2018 the number of the registered emergency cases has increased by 2119, the number of the casualties by 296, the victims by 5.

Connected with weather hot conditions, human activity and other causes 2019 was marked by various emergency situations, particularly by the huge number of large-scale fires.
Proceed from the issues and approaches assigned to the field the main efforts of 2019 were aimed at emergency situations forecast, prevention and reduction of possible consequences towards the implementation of the operations, increase in the readiness of the forces and management bodies of Yerevan, as well as improvement of the efficiency of response to various emergency, household and fire calls occurred in Yerevan.
Close cooperation with Yerevan Rescue Department went on in 2019 in the framework of the events implemented by the corresponding departments of Yerevan Municipality, Staff of Administrative Districts and organization in the field of civil defense and population protection in emergency situations.
Plans of Yerevan city civil defense, protection of the population of Yerevan city during emergency situations, evacuation of the population, material and cultural values of Yerevan, civil defense of Yerevan civil defense services were identified in the reporting period.
Cooperating with Yerevan Municipality and administrative districts “Passport of Yerevan city” was submitted for approval to Yerevan Mayor.
Joint activities were implemented with the working group created from the Departments of the staff of Yerevan Municipality towards the development of the “Concept of ensuring complex security of the population of Yerevan city”.
ES Minister Feliks Tsolakyan mentioned in his speech that the year was full of fires and expressed his gratitude to the employees for complex and responsible work.
Minister Tsolakyan spoke of the preservation of fire security rules, particularly highlighted the problems of fire security existing in the multi-apartment buildings. According to the Minister problems arose connected with the response to fires on high floors and informed that there was already a preliminary arrangement for announcing tender and acquiring 2 cars for implementing firefighting up to 60 m height.
Feliks Tsolakyan considered prior the issue of providing the newly built building with modern anti-fire means and attached much importance to the cooperation with the Municipality in that issue.
Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan highly assessed the work of rescuers and assured that the Municipality attached the prior importance to the safety and security of citizens in the on-going projects. Mayor informed that by the agreement signed between the European Union and Yerevan Municipality Hazardous waste management program would be implemented aimed at the elimination of hazardous waste. Hayk Marutyan also noted that installation of 500 new elevators was envisaged in the current year by means of community budget in Yerevan city.
Yerevan Mayor also informed that the water cars and other technical means can be provided to MES in any moment.
Vrezh Gabrielyan, r/s General-Major, Director of the Rescue Service, noted in his speech the measures taken towards the improvement of living conditions, increasing material-technical saturation, technical armament of fire and rescue subdivisions of the Rescue Service and civil defense in Yerevan city.
According to General Gabrielyan first time in the post-soviet period the Government provided 1 milliard 170 million AMD for the overhaul of the building and 32 fire and rescue squads situated in Yerevan and for creating prosperous living conditions for rescuers, as well as it was the first time that the rescuers’ salary was increased by 45-50 %.
Director of the Rescue Service expressed hope that due to the steps being implemented jointly in the current year it would be possible to make Yerevan more safe and presentable.
