February 14,2020 22:29

The director of the Shirak branch of the National Center for Disease Control, Vardan Urutyan, told Aravot Daily in an interview that, in order to prevent the spread of respiratory infections, 8 families consisting of 12 people who have returned to Shirak from China have been placed under supervision.

According to Urutyan, they are mostly residents of Gyumri and mainly teachers who lived in China either alone or with their families for some time. They all lived in different cities.

Vardan Urutyan said, “A fever was recorded in a 6-year-old child nine to ten days after they returned from China. They were immediately quarantined and taken to the Nork Infection Hospital in Yerevan on behalf of the Red Cross Polyclinic. Luckily, the lab results for the coronavirus and influenza were negative. The child is doing well at the moment.”

Urutyan also noted that doctors are constantly supervising these patients. There are also doctors working on Saturdays and Sundays.

He also said that, over the past 14 days, epidemiology filters have been actively in use by the employees. They are working with nurses and teachers to supervise the entrances to schools and preschools. Children who are suspected of having respiratory illnesses are examined by nurses and sent home. Their parents are then told to immediately take their children to the doctor. Every morning, these specialists go to schools and preschools.

Urutyan said that the percent of respiratory illnesses in comparison to 2019 has gone down by 1.5 percent, and the percent of pneumonia cases has also gone down by between 1.3-1.6 percent.

He also said that the proper steps have been initiated for the prevention of the coronavirus by actively working with officials at the Bavra border and the Shirak airport’s sanitary control department. They also receive information on a daily basis from Armenian citizens who have returned from China from other border checkpoints.

Vardan Urutyan requested that all parents take their children to the doctor as soon as they notice symptoms of any illnesses to receive medical attention and consultation instead of sending their children to school or preschool.
