“The intensity of the spread of the coronavirus currently shows that we can ease some of the restrictions,” Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia and head of the State of Emergency Command, Tigran Avinyan, said during the INSTALIVE segment on COAF Armenia’s Instagram page.
Many people were asking when they would be able to return to work, when the service industry would be allowed to open, and when public transportation would operate again. Avinyan responded, “We already eased some of the restrictions, such as people’s self-isolation restrictions and the restrictions placed on construction and the production industry. Most likely, we will be able to issue new legislation on May 4th allowing the operation of a wide range of businesses in the production and service industries, such as beauty salons and other similar businesses while, of course, following a set of rules. Soon, we will also discuss the possibility of allowing outdoor coffee shops to operate, and later, we will open all restaurants.”
Regarding public transportation, Tigran Avinyan said, “Public transportation will not operate for some time due to the fact that it is a highly risky sector. However, we will be able to discuss the possibility somewhere around mid-May. Of course, I am aware of the fact that the restriction on public transportation has caused some of the most problems. Therefore, I want to apologize to Armenian citizens. Since the risk of spreading the virus dramatically increases on public transport, these restrictions will be removed in the final phases.”
