A record number of new coronavirus cases was confirmed today. The Minister of Health, Arsen Torosyan, spoke about this prior to the government session when the Prime Minister asked Torosyan about the coronavirus situation.
“The bad news is that we had a record number of new cases yesterday: 134. So, the overall number of confirmed cases reached 2,066. 29 people recovered, which makes the total number of recoveries 929. This means that the number of people receiving medical attention is 1,103. Unfortunately, two more people died, which brings the total number of deaths to 32.”
According to the minister, 6 people need ventilators, 17 people are in critical condition, and 59 people are in serious condition.
Torosyan said that, given the way that the situation has developed, the strategy of not hospitalizing those with mild symptoms will likely be implemented. “Of course, our approach is that we need to delay making such a decision as much as possible because that could cause the virus to spread even more. I believe that we will be able to keep this trend for the next 5-6 days, although there were many people within the 134 new cases who had come into contact with one another. Therefore, I can’t say whether or not we will have the same number of cases today. It’s possible that the number will be lower. The fact that they came into contact with one another is very worrisome; we have a case that we tried to avoid. This case is the individual who participated in the funeral and infected other people. This is why we need to repeat that only small numbers of people should participate in such events and they should not believe that the danger has passed.”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan about whether or not this new data will cause the State of Emergency Command to change its plans. “Not yet. Overall, the circles of contact for these cases is very clear. We had serious problems with the hospital, but we have been able to establish the circles of contact more or less. Therefore, depending on the way the virus spreads, it is possible for our plans to change, but we do not see the need to change anything yet. But the data over the next few days and their circles of contact will allow us to make concrete decisions.”
According to the deputy prime minister, more businesses will be allowed to open on May 4th. Many essential businesses will be allowed to open, but they will be forced to follow rules. However, the education system will remain closed, as well as the entertainment and cultural sectors. The production industry and different types of stores will be allowed to open.
