On June 29, the extraordinary sitting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs moderated by Naira Zohrabyan was held, having on the agenda the item on participation of the Committee to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia.
Naira Zohrabyan voiced the procedure on applying to the technical assistance in the framework of the abovementioned programme worked out by the RA NA Standing Committees.
It is designed to assist the Committees in RA Drams equivalent up to 12.000 USD. The project is aimed at strengthening the National Assembly to carry out its key functions of law making, oversight and representation in its new and fundamentally enhanced role within the governance system.
Some members of the Committee presented their recommendations. Maria Karapetyan considered necessary the involvement of the lawyer-expert in the activities of the Working Group. She also proposed the attendees to implement a field study over the Yezidi girls’ rights, particularly observing as a problem the early marriages.

Naira Zohrabyan emphasized the fact of having a law on protection of the right to the non-born child’s life.
The Committee chose one deputy from each faction – Shake Isayan from the NA Prosperous Armenia, Ani Samsonyan from the NA Bright Armenia and Sargis Khandanyan from the NA My Step for further study of the recommendations.
The Committee members will submit recommendations in written form within one week.
