Nowadays, it is impossible to surprise anyone with democratic and nationalistic goals. But sometimes when the authorities do it, their supporters and stooges say, “Their thoughts are so deep, original, and accurate. These are new ideas in the history of our political thought.” This was the response after the National Security Strategy was published. The issue isn’t so much who is saying what because we all essentially want the same thing. It is more difficult to explain what each one of us expects. Let’s imagine that a goal has been set to increase the population of Armenia to 5 million by 2040. There are no Armenians who are against that. But in order to reach that desirable goal, it is important to implement the appropriate policies not only in socioeconomics, but in many other sectors as well. I believe that the appropriate environment needs to be established, for example. Public speech, independent law enforcement and judicial systems, and the environment for business are also important. The efforts of both the authorities and society over the past two years are not sufficient enough. Sometimes, those efforts have contributed to the opposite effect.
