UATE hackathon results summed up

October 10,2020 12:23

On October 7-8, a round-the-clock hackathon was held at the “Yerevan Expo” center, aimed at creating technological responses to the state of war. The event was held as part of the mobilization of the IT community, previously announced by the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises (UATE).

The goal of the hackathon was not to identify a winning team for each category, but to find the best solution for each area, which would allow the teams to work together to develop the final solutions.

The hackathon generated over 20 ideas on information security awareness, social media platform optimization and supporting volunteer efforts. In the end, more than 30 participants worked on four projects focused on identifying fake news, enabling the sharing of verified news, matching volunteers with programs looking for volunteers, and more efficient collection and distribution of humanitarian aid.

“I was very impressed with the collective thinking and prioritization of issues, as well as the strong teamwork to develop solutions which can have a real impact on our citizens and society during, and after, this critical time,” said Raffi Kassarjian, Executive Director of UATE.

The teams presented proof of concepts, and will work to finalize these online platforms in the coming days. UATE will ask Cybersecurity experts from the ArmSec community to evaluate these projects and ensure that they have proper security standards and protection.
