Major General and Hero of Artsakh Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan (Komandos) assured Aravot Daily in an interview that according to his calculations, Shushi’s defenders will be able to hold onto Shushi.
We reminded Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan that he had said merely days ago that “those are not the kinds of forces that will be able to enter Shushi,” but the advisor to the President of Artsakh, Vahram Poghosyan, said in a statement, “The entire city of Shushi is outside of our control. The enemy is approaching the gates of Stepanakert.” We asked him how the enemy was able to enter Shushi. Komandos responded, “Today is the fourth day in which Turkey and Azerbaijan brought all of their forces to Shushi, which also includes Turkey’s special forces. They brought all of their weapons to Shushi and Stepanakert. This caused an extremely difficult situation. Now we are on the defense.”
We asked him to comment on Vahram Poghosyan’s statement about how the entirety of Shushi is outside of Armenian control. The Hero of Artsakh said, “He is referring to the people, not the army. Did Vahram Poghosyan say that we left Shushi? No, he was simply saying that all civilians left Shushi; there are no more women or children in the city. Now, our army is fighting there, including our volunteers. Our commander is Seyran Ohanyan who liberated Shushi, and now he is defending Shushi. We are fighting against the enemy in this difficult moment, and that enemy is several times larger than we are. God willing, everything will be fine.”
We asked the major general to explain whether or not the situation is as bad as Vahram Poghosyan said or if that was simply a strategic move. Komandos said, “Everything is possible. This is a fight, and you cannot tell a fight how it is supposed to continue. However, according to my calculations, Shushi’s defenders will be able to hold onto Shushi.”
